Lee: the history of jeans
At the origin of the iconic jeans brand, is Henry David Lee. After making his name in the wholesale of groceries, he began producing denim work wear in 1911. The brand soon became popular, selling overalls to farmers and workers. The U.S. Army ordered uniforms from Lee in 1917, before sailors, loggers and cowboys seized the opportunity in the 20s. In 1926, Lee decided to create pieces fitted with a zipper, a true first in the history of textile. It was not until 1949 with the influx of women in factories that Lee jeans were available in women's models. Today, Lee jeans have a strong image, evoking authenticity, quality and innovation.

LEE dungarees

From dungarees to jeans to shirts and t-shirts, Lee has been clothing the world for over a century. Founded in 1889 by Henry David Lee under the name H.D. Lee Mercantile Company, the brand has been expanding ever since. The use of protective denim work clothes started in 1911, especially with dungarees.

The Lee reputation

In 1913, the brand made waves when it created the union-all, work clothes that were also trendy and made of denim. Lee knew how to be successful for the quality of its products, but they also were the first brand of work clothes with an international press campaign, for their Union-all item among others.

The Lee style

Denim and a free spirit, shorts, jeans, and a unique style have made Lee a leading brand of jean makers, along with Levi’s and Diesel.
